Fossil Fuel Ads Banned in The Hague
It’s a world first! Ads that plug high-carbon products, such as flights and cars, are going to be banned in The Hague from 2025.
Whilst there are examples of other cities such as Edinburgh in the UK making similar moves, none have yet gone this far. Sheffield, also in the UK, recently banned any ads for high polluting products on council-owned hoardings. Meanwhile Toronto in Canada is another city looking to restrict such ads.
Femke Sleegers from Dutch campaign group Reclame Fossielvrij said, “If you want to get rid of fossil fuels, you stop advertising that promotes fossil fuel use. The Hague is showing that it can be done through local law. This decision can have a snowball effect worldwide.”
I recently published a video exposing a deceitful ad campaign by energy giant EDF.
